From KVM Switches to Broadband and RAM Upgrade Advice

Having bought my computer last year, with great specs including extremely quick quad core processor, Ram to feed its speed and a hard drive that holds more than I can throw at it I have been looking at things that might improve the system I already have.

Firstly If your processor is still competing with the market and is more than capable of running the software you are using you don't have to think about starting all over again. If it isn't you may want to consider a new mother board and chipset. Normally however once you start down this route it is probably worth just buying a new desktop as the separates often come in at more than a new whole computer.

Second if we take it that your processor is fast enough load up the Ram it gives your processor the space to work at maximum efficiency. Find out which board you have and put the serial number into Google and you should be able to find what Ram your System can take (the price of ram has come down by so much it's a worthwhile investment).

Thirdly if you have a vast collection of music or imagery that you want to store, manipulate, access, play then have a separate super speedy drive to allow you to access your files quickly don't be fooled by large disc sizes which have a rotation speed RPM of 5400 not acceptable, 7400 acceptable and 9600 Yeha!. These first three are things that will effect your every day experience of computing.

Fourthly If you have have an old computer that is great, but no longer cuts the mustard, you don't have to get rid of it you can use it as an auxiliary system that you access when you need the data stored on that system and let it run applications in the background without effecting your new system in anyway. The use of a KVM switch is brilliant for this as it allows you to flick between computers using the same Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor to access both systems at the click of a button.
